Morgan Wiebe spent most of her day at the front of the pack.

The 11-year-old member of the Prince George Track and Field Club won all four of her races at Saturday's Sub Zero, the first local meet of the season, at Masich Place Stadium. Wiebe zipped to victories in the 100 metre dash (16.09 seconds), 200 m dash (32.17), 600 m dash (2:40.72) and the 1,000 m run (3:47.39). She also competed in the long jump and placed second to teammate Rebecca Fuentes. Wiebe soared 2.85 m, just shy of Fuentes' winning leap of 2.88 m.

Robyn Barwise also had a strong day. In the girls 14- and 15-year-old category, the local athlete was first across the finish line in the 800 m run (2:42.93) and 1,200 m run (4:24.71). And, on the field, she topped the triple-jump standings with a distance of 8.36 m.

Sophia Mahmoud, a local athlete who competes independently, also opened the season in style.

Mahmoud, 13, ended her day with victories in the 100 m dash, 300 m dash and long jump. In the

100 m, she posted a winning time of 14.12 seconds and, in the 300, stopped the clock in 45.75 seconds. In long jump, she won by more than half a metre with a leap of 4.04 m.

In boys competition, Adam Sieben had a memorable day. The 10-year-old sprinted to first place in the 100 m dash (16.34 seconds) and also showed his talent for long-distance running when he won the 1,000 m race in a time of 3:54.28. Sieben was equally successful in his field events. In the long jump, he edged clubmate Justin Warkentin by the slimmest of margins for top spot.

Sieben jumped 2.99 m, while Warkentin leaped 2.98 m. And, in shot put, Sieben powered his way to first place with a throw of 5.65 m.

Reid Liston, another youngster who trains with the PGTFC, also put together some excellent results at the Sub Zero meet. The nine-year-old Liston won his 100 m and 1,000 m races in times of 17.41 seconds and 4:02.02 respectively. In long jump, he flew

2.96 m for another first-place finish.

The next local track and field meet is the north central zone high school championships, May 20-21 at Masich Place Stadium. The event will qualify athletes for provincials, June 2-4 in Nanaimo.
