The Under-18 Timberwolves were among the first in local history to qualify for the boys Provincial A Cup youth soccer championship. Obviously not satisfied with that accomplishment alone, the Timberwolves pulled a medal out of the elite-level tournament.
The Timberwolves were in Surrey for the four-team event and, in Sunday's bronze-medal showdown, beat Bays/Peninsula/JDF of Vancouver Island 2-0.
The T-wolves were just one goal away from playing for gold. With a win a necessity in their last game of round robin, they battled to a 2-2 draw with Richmond FC United and fell short of the final.
Prince George began the tournament with a 3-0 victory against Bays/Peninsula/JDF and then lost 3-1 to BDMS Lakers FC of Burnaby.
During provincials, Tyler Macsemniuk scored six of the eight Timberwolves' goals. Joe Giesbrecht and Anthony Preston also found the back of opposition nets.
The team includes Kevin Durand, Cecil MacRae, Carter Karpenko, Matt Kuc, Matt Macsemniuk, Graeme Lewis, Landon Kitchen, Hunter Barks, Matt Wilkinson, Peter Kemp, Luke Brbot and Kyle Wilkinson. Head coach John Ribeiro is assisted by Peter Brbot and Mike Sexton, and the team manager is Karen Wilkinson.
In the championship game, Richmond topped Burnaby 3-2.
