The UNBC Timberwolves returned from Vancouver empty-handed after suffering a pair of losses to the UBC Thunderbirds in Canadian Interuniversity Sport Canada West men's soccer action on the weekend.

UBC, the defending national champions from a year ago, shut out UNBC 3-0 Sunday with a pair of goals in the first half and a single marker early in the second half to secure the win.

On Saturday, the T-birds struck three times in the first half en route to a 5-1 victory.

UNBC dominated the first part of the second half and eventually rookie striker Brandon Wallace converted on a scoring opportunity on a corner kick taken by Luke Holmes.

The Thunderbirds added two more goals seven minutes later to stake the win.

UBC maintains its hold on top spot in the CIS Canada West Pacific Division with a 4-0 record and 12 points, while UNBC sits at 1-3 and four points for a three-way tie for fourth place.

UNBC's women were also not successful against their UBC counterparts, suffering a 3-0 defeat Sunday and a 5-0 loss Saturday.

UBC tallied a goal in the first half and scored twice more in the second half on Sunday.

After staking a 2-0 first-half lead in Saturday's match, all three goals UBC scored in the second half were a tap-ins off a rebound.

UBC improved to a 2-2 record to sit third in the Pacific Division, while UNBC falls to 0-2-2.

At 3-0-1 and 10 points, Trinity Western University leads the women's Pacific Division, one point ahead of University of the Fraser Valley (3-1).

Both UNBC men's and women's sides return to the Lower Mainland again this weekend, this time to Abbotsford to tackle UFV Friday and Saturday.
