Prince George Special Olympics athletes held their own against the country's best at the National Summer Games last week in Vancouver, winning 11 medals.

Hosted at UBC, the Special Olympics Summer Games was the largest in its history with more than 2,000 athletes, coaches and officials representing 11 different sports.

Eight athletes from Prince George competed and were part of Team B.C.

David Dunn lived life in the fast lane at the pool, winning gold in the 100-metre breast stroke and silver medals in the 200m individual medley and 100m freestyle.

Jasmyne Morgan was just as fast, grabbing bronze medals in the 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle.

Morgan's and Dunn's teammate Josh Pudney stroked to gold in the 25m freestyle and won bronze in the 100m free.

At the 10-pin bowling alley, Linda Renner rolled her way to the podium winning a silver medal in singles and a gold medal in the all-around.

In five-pin, Jordan Korum and Emilie Synder finished in seventh place.

Rhythmic gymnasts Darcey Muzycha and Michaela Samsonoff both returned to Prince George with medals. Muzycha won bronze in Level 4 clubs routines, while Samsonoff won silver in Level 3 ball and bronze in Level 3 rope.

All athletes qualified for the Summer Games at the B.C. Special Olympics Provincial Games in July, 2013.
