The Everett Silvertips showed why they're one of the stingiest teams in the WHL Tuesday night.

The Silvertips beat the Prince George Cougars 6-1 at CN Centre to hand the Cats their sixth-straight loss.

Centre Kohl Bauml scored a pair of goals, including the game winner late in the first period as Everett improves to 29-12-3-1 with 62 points and remains in second place in the Western Conference.

Prince George falls to 20-25-1-1 with 42 points and are clinging to the eight spot in the conference.

With the third-best power play in the league, Everett scored three times on seven power play opportunities, as Prince George's penalty-killing woes continue and are ranked dead last in the league.

Everett took a 3-0 lead into the third period and added to it on goals from Bauml, Graham Miller and Remi Laurencelle.

The Cougars only bright spot came in the third period when left-winger Chase Witala scored his 25th of the season at the 13:45 mark to narrow the Silvertips lead to four.

The visitors scored twice in the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the final frame.

Carson Stadnyk tallied at the 11:58 mark and Bauml scored five minutes into the second period on the power play.

Ivan Nikolishin gave Everett a 1-0 lead at the 14:10 mark of the first period The power play goal came with a minute left on Cougars' defenceman Sam Ruopp five-minute major for kneeing and game misconduct.

Silvertips netminder Austin Lotz swept aside 26 of 27 shots, while Patrick Gora, in his second start for the Cougars, swept aside 27 of 33 shots he faced.

Both teams were without two of their top players Tuesday. Cougars forward Jansen Harkins and Silvertips defenceman Noah Juulsen are in St. Catherines, Ont. for the CHL's Top Prospects Game on Thursday.

The two teams clash again tonight at 7 p.m.
