The Red Deer Rebels scored three unanswered goals in the second period as they doubled the visiting Prince George Cougars 6-3 Friday night.

The loss was the third-straight for the Cats as they now find themselves at an even .500 at 7-7 in the WHL's B.C. Division.

Red Deer's victory on home ice snapped a five-game losing streak as the team now improves to 4-7-1-0 and fourth place in the Eastern Conference's Central Division.

The game was also Prince George's first of three-games-in-three nights on their first road swing to Alberta this season.

The game was all knotted at 2-2 halfway through the second period thanks to Cougars goals from Tyler Mrkonjic and Jari Erricson, while Evan Polei and Brett Cote replied for the Rebels.

Erricson's goal, his team-leading ninth of the season, came on a pass from Jansen Harkins from behind the net.

Red Deer then erupted with three unanswered goals from Wyatt Johnson with a pair of markers and Tyler Sandhu in a six-minute span in the second period to take a 5-2 lead. It was Sandhu's first goal in a Rebels sweater after he was acquired in a trade from the Everett Silvertips on Monday.

Prince George forward Brad Morrison scored his third goal of the season to narrow Red Deer's lead to two late in the third period, but Grayson Pawlenchuk put the game away with his first goal of the game and third point of the night at the 17:23-minute mark.

The Cougars only mustered five shots on goal on Rebels netminder Rylan Toth in the third period for a game total of 27 shots. Meanwhile, Prince George goalie Ty Edmonds swept aside 24 of 30 shots he faced between the pipes.

Only four minor penalties were taken in the game as the Rebels capitalized on both of their power-play opportunities, while the Cats were held off the scoresheet when they had the man-advantage, going 0-2.

The Cougars move on to Edmonton tonight to take on the 7-3-0-1 Oil Kings. The Oil Kings were idle Friday night and are on a four-game winning streak.

The Cats then travel to Calgary to battle the Hitmen Sunday.
