Paciejewski picked as MVP

When the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association handed out its season-ending awards on Tuesday night at Kin 1, Cole Paciejewski took the top honour.

When the Prince George Senior Lacrosse Association handed out its season-ending awards on Tuesday night at Kin 1, Cole Paciejewski took the top honour.

Paciejewski, a member of the RPR Mechanical/BX Pub Bandits, won the Helen McIntosh Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player. In 10 games, he put up 76 points (46 goals, 30 assists) and helped the Bandits to a regular-season championship with a 13-1 record. He was also named to the PGSLA's first all-star team.

One of Paciejewski's teammates, Drew Doig, was recognized as the league scoring champion. In 14 outings, Doig scored 44 goals and added 62 assists for 106 points. Doig was selected to the second all-star team.

Other award-winners were as follows: Ted Conway Memorial Trophy, top goaltender - Jamie Bellamy, Westwood Pub Devils; Aaron Van Driesum Memorial Trophy, most sportsmanlike player - Ray Masson, Co-op Petroleum Stylers; Les Bartley Memorial Trophy, top coach/manager - Albert Cooper, Quesnel M. Daniels Consulting Crossfire; R.C. Adams Glass Defensive Player of the Year - Taylor Attree, Bandits; Most Improved Player - Kyle Frederick, Stylers; Rookie of the Year - tie, Dusty Cathcart, Crossfire, and Justin Parker, Bandits; Most Sportsmanlike Team - Northland Nissan Assault.

The first all-star team was rounded out by Attree, Frederick, Bob Mills (Crossfire), Monty Jones (Devils) and Mat Rochon (Stylers). Members of the second all-star team included Bellamy, Cathcart, Trevor Clark (Bandits), Ryan Waddington (Bandits) and Josh Kelly (Assault).

The awards were presented before the first game of the playoff championship series between the Bandits and Devils. At The Citizen's press deadline, the Bandits were leading 10-5.

Game 2 of the series - a best-of-five affair - is Thursday, while Game 3 is set for Tuesday, July 25. If fourth and fifth games are necessary, they will be played Thursday, July 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 1.
