Morrison has been deadly for Hurricanes

His hometown team - the one for which he played four full Western Hockey League seasons - isn't in the playoffs. But Brad Morrison, the former Prince George Cougars forward who now skates for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, has no time to dwell on such matters.

He's too busy piling up points for the Hurricanes, who are into the second round after a 4-1 series victory against the Red Deer Rebels in Round 1.

In those five games, the 21-year-old Morrison posted a league-leading 16 points on six goals and 10 assists.

In a 6-0 series-opening win on March 23 in Lethbridge, Morrison recorded a goal and an assist. In an 8-3 victory the next night, he struck for two goals and four helpers (the six points a career-best) and was named first star of the game.

Next, in a 5-4 overtime triumph on March 27 in Red Deer, Morrison picked up one goal and two assists, including the primary helper on the game-winning goal by Calen Addison, 38 seconds into the extra session. In a 5-2 loss on March 28, Morrison was held to one assist.

When the Hurricanes closed out the series with a 6-4 home-ice win on Saturday, Morrison put up four points (two goals, two assists).

After the first two games of the series, Morrison was chosen as the WHL player of the week and was subsequently named CHL player of the week as well.

After four seasons in a Cougars uniform, Morrison was traded to the Vancouver Giants for the start of the 2017-18 WHL season. After 42 games with the Giants, he was dealt in January to the Hurricanes and played in 32 regular-season contests with them. Overall, he finished the season with 27 goals and 48 assists for 75 points in 74 games.

In exchange for Morrison, the Cougars received a second-round pick in the 2018 WHL bantam draft.

In the second round of playoffs, the Hurricanes will take on the Brandon Wheat Kings, who eliminated the Medicine Hat Tigers in six games in the opening round. Game 1 of the Hurricanes-Wheat Kings series is set for Friday in Lethbridge.

Former Cougars defenceman Tate Olson also plays for the Hurricanes.
