Local trampoline gymnast Anna MacDonald was among the top performers at the Ogopogo Invitational in Kelowna on the weekend.

MacDonald placed first overall in the trampoline competition and was second in the double-mini event. Two of her Prince George Gymnastics Club teammates - Sydney Hamilton and Rhiana Palfy - also did well in Kelowna. Hamilton ended up fifth in trampoline and 14th in double-mini, while Palfy finished ninth in double-mini.

In double-mini trampoline, the athlete makes an approach on a runway and mounts the slightly-angled front part of the apparatus with a feet-first jump. That creates an initial bounce, and then a second bounce on the flat portion of the trampoline is used to perform a skill. A third bounce sets the competitor up for the dismount.

MacDonald, Hamilton and Palfy are tuning up for the national championships, July 12-16 in Oshawa, Ont. The Kelowna meet was the first national-level event for Palfy.

Next up for local trampolinists is the Western Canada Cup, June 2-4 in Port Moody.
