A lack of sleep didn't do much to take Dylan Woloshyniuk off his game.

Saturday at the Prince George Table Tennis Club's inaugural tournament, Woloshyniuk was unbeatable.

Despite having to spend the previous night in his car after a fatal accident on Highway 97 closed the highway in both directions, Woloshyniuk went undefeated in the 20-player tournament held at AimHi gym.

Woloshyniuk, 21, defeated Richard Mintenko of the Prince George Table Tennis Club to win the title in straight sets, 14-12, 11-9, 11-6.

The 60-year-old Mintenko claimed the silver medal and Greg Watson of Prince George won bronze with a five-set victory over Francisco Rubio of Kelowna, winning 11-9, 11-9, 9-11, 5-11, 11-3.

One other Kelowna resident, Stephen Serrano, also played in the tournament.

"They ended up getting stuck in traffic after that bad accident south of Quesnel so they spent the whole night on the highway and showed up in Prince George about 6:30 in the morning and came and played with no sleep," said Watson, vice-president of the Prince George club.

Leading up to the medal round, the players each had three best-of-three round-robin matches and were ranked accordingly for the single-elimination playoff matches which followed. The tournament was played on the tables used for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
