Judo athletes golden in Richmond

Koen Heitman, Sydney Edgson and Tami Goto fought their way to the top of the podium at the Pacific International judo tournament in Richmond on the weekend.

Koen Heitman, Sydney Edgson and Tami Goto fought their way to the top of the podium at the Pacific International judo tournament in Richmond on the weekend.

Heitman, from the Hart Judo Academy, claimed a gold medal in the under-18 boys minus 66-kilogram category. Edgson, meanwhile, was golden in the under-16 girls minus 63kg class and Goto was the under-18 girls minus 48kg champion. Edgson and Goto also earned medals in other age groups - Edgson a silver in under-18 minus 63 and Goto a bronze in senior minus 48kg.

Other medalists at the meet, all from the HJA, were: Ioan Frizzell, silver, intermediate senior men minus 55kg; Davin Greenwood, silver, intermediate senior men minus 66kg; Isaac Kamstra, bronze, under-16 boys minus 50kg; Gabe Paterson, bronze, under-18 boys minus 50kg; Asher Young, bronze, under-16 and under-18 boys minus 46kg; Kimiko Kamstra, bronze, under-18 girls minus 48kg.

The next tournament for local judokas is the Edmonton International this coming weekend.

The annual P.G. Open is April 20-21 at Duchess Park secondary school.
