Seventy-two young cowboys and cowgirls from around the province saddled up to compete at the Tim Hortons Little Britches Rodeo at Nukko Lake Riding Arena on the weekend.

The young buckaroos between the ages of five and 15 (including 15 from Prince George) strapped on their spurs to compete in barrel racing, pole bending, goat tail tying, dummy roping, stakes, goat tying, break-away roping, chute dogging, and calf tying in junior boys and girls and senior boys and girls divisions.

Fallon Jones was the top local high points winner in junior girls, while Roddy MacDonald was the local high points leader in senior boys. He also earned the sportsmanship award.

Out of all senior boys athletes, MacDonald had one of the fastest times of under three minutes in chute dogging.

Allaina Procter and Payden Hinton tied for local high points in the senior girls division.

The 12th annual event attracted between 250 to 300 fans and was organized by volunteers from the Lakes Community Horse Club.

The Prince George event is one of seven Little Britches rodeos on the B.C. circuit, and competitors came from as far away as Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
