Holick will remain Cats' coach

The new boss of the Prince George Cougars won't be searching for a new head coach.

The new boss of the Prince George Cougars won't be searching for a new head coach.

On the day his bid to acquire the team was approved by the WHL's board of governors, Cougars majority owner Greg Pocock confirmed Mark Holick will be back behind the bench next season.

The 45-year-old Holick still has two seasons left on the contract he signed when he took over the Cougars on Jan. 23, 2013, to replace fired head coach Dean Clark.

"We have absolute confidence in Mark Holick regardless of his contract situation," said Pocock. "Mark is the guy for us and we have told him he has a job moving forward and has our every confidence."

Holick, who played as a right winger for the Saskatoon Blades/New Westminster Bruins from 1984 to 1988, began coaching as an assistant in the B.C. Hockey League with the Surrey Eagles in 1996. He was head coach of the Eagles from 1997 to 2001 before he began a three-year stint as head coach of the WHL's Kootenay Ice. He served two seasons in the American Hockey League as head coach of the Syracuse Crunch before he came to the Cougars.

Holick could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
