Spruce Kings add octane to blueline

If defenceman Griffin Roubos delivers offence for the Prince George Spruce Kings like he did last season in the Greater Ontario Junior (B) Hockey League, the Spruce Kings have taken a big step in the right direction for 2017-18.

If defenceman Griffin Roubos delivers offence for the Prince George Spruce Kings like he did last season in the Greater Ontario Junior (B) Hockey League, the Spruce Kings have taken a big step in the right direction for 2017-18.
The Spruce Kings acquired the 19-year-old's services this week from the Caledonia Corvairs in a deal for future considerations. Roubos, a six-foot-one, 185-pound native of Stoney Creek, Ont., lit up the GOJHL with 17 goals 27 assists and 44 points in 43 games last season.
"We're excited to add a dynamic player like Griffin to our team,"  said Spruce Kings general manager Mike Hawes, in a team release. "Griffin is an excellent skater who sees the ice very well and will be looked upon to generate a lot of offense from our back end while still being defensively responsible.
"We’ve had a lot of success in recent years recruiting defencemen from this league with Adam Brubacher and Adam Burnett, and we feel confident Griffin will be the same kind of impact player for our team that those two were. He's also a terrific young man who will blend in well with our existing group of players,"
Roubos joined the Corvairs at the trade deadline, after collecting 14 goals and 30 points in 32 games with the Thorold Blackhawks. He finished the regular season with three goals and 14 points in 11 games and in 16 playoff games posted three goals and 11 points to help the Corvairs get to the GOJHL semifinal round, losing in a six-game series to Elmira.
Roubos played in the GOJHL Top Prospects game the past two seasons.
He's expected to arrive in Prince George to meet his new teammates when training camp begins Aug. 24 at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
