Megan Heinicke placed a respectable 41st in the women's 7.5-kilometre sprint at a World Cup biathlon stop in Pokljuka, Slovenia, on Thursday.

She advanced to the women's 10km pursuit today.

Representing Prince George's Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and wearing Canada's colours, Heinicke, 26, completed the three-lap distance in 21 minutes 57.6 seconds, 1:40.3 off the winning pace of Czechoslovakia's Gabriela Soukalova.

On the shooting range, Heinicke was perfect in the prone position, making all five shots. She missed two of five shots in the standing position and was forced to do two penalty loops.

Heinicke will join Canadian teammate Rosanna Crawford in today's pursuit. Crawford finished fourth in the sprint, clocking 20:51.1, missing only one shot in the prone position.

CNSC's Sarah Beaudry finished 66th in Thursday's sprint with a time of 22:48.4 and made nine of her 10 shots on the range. The 20-year-old's only miss was in the prone position.

Only the top 60 finishers advanced to the pursuit race.
