Heinicke 14th in World Cup biathlon pursuit

Prince George biathlete Megan Heinicke was perfect on the shooting range en route to a 14th-place finish in the World Cup 10-kilometre women's pursuit in Pokljuka, Slovenia on Saturday. Based on her 41st-place finish on Thursday in the women's 7.

Prince George biathlete Megan Heinicke was perfect on the shooting range en route to a 14th-place finish in the World Cup 10-kilometre women's pursuit in Pokljuka, Slovenia on Saturday.

Based on her 41st-place finish on Thursday in the women's 7.5km sprint, Heinicke, 26, started one minute 40 seconds behind leader Gabriela Soukalova of Czechoslovakia.

Heinicke moved up 27 spots, crossing the line in 32:05.4 to finish 14th, thanks in part to making all 20 of her targets in four rounds of shooting.

Her time was 2:09.5 off the pace of winner Darya Domracheva of Belarus, wh clocked 29:55.9, with only one shooting penalty.

Heinicke was the second-fastest Canadian on Saturday.

Rosanna Crawford of Canmore was the top Canadian, finishing seventh, posting a time of 31:16.6.

Kaisa Makarainen of Finland was second (30:05.9), while Valj Semerenko of Ukraine was third (30:32.7).

The World Cup event in Pokljuka wraps up the first half of the 2014-15 World Cup season.

It resumes on Jan. 7 in Oberhof, Germany.
