Gymnasts shine away from home

Members of the Prince George Gymnastics Club gave glittering performances at the Kamloops Invitational last weekend. In total, six individual athletes earned all-around gold medals, and one P.G. team topped the podium as well.

Members of the Prince George Gymnastics Club gave glittering performances at the Kamloops Invitational last weekend. In total, six individual athletes earned all-around gold medals, and one P.G. team topped the podium as well.

In individual competition, Lillianne Sullivan, Ava Stringer, Marissa Hawkes and Annie Olson were awarded gold in the Level 2 division. In Level 6 (2005-2008), Madison Willier was also golden, a feat matched by Mataya Auxi in Level 7.

In the team event, Level 6 gymnasts Kaitlyn Muir, Kaylie Owston and Rachel Massey combined to win gold in the 2003-2004 age group.

Other Prince George medalists in various divisions were: silver - Kelsey Willier, Kairi Reiffarth, Bella Blair, Sydney Davis and Gyongyi Kiraly; bronze - Casey Muise, Hanna Piddocke and Muir.

Five other PGGC members were in Abbotsford last weekend for the Twisters Invitational and one of them, Jade Jacobs, claimed all-around gold in the Level 7 category. In her individual events, Jacobs placed first on balance beam, second on floor exercise, fourth on vault and fifth on uneven bars. Level 7 athletes Bronwyn Ellington and Dallyn Long finished fourth and sixth respectively in the all-around standings, while Rhiana Palfy (Level 8) and Alia Wilson (Level 10) ended up eighth and seventh.
