Football season ends in Vernon for PGSS, College Heights

The North Vancouver team ended the Polars’ high school football season, beating them 22-14 in their B.C. Secondary School Football Association double-A varsity preliminary round playoff. The Pipers, fourth-ranked in the Western Conference, took a 20-7 into the halftime intermission and capped the scoring with a safety in the second half.
PGSS, the Northern Conference champion, was coming off a 31-11 victory last weekend against the College Heights Cougars in the P.G. Bowl final in Prince George.
Earlier Saturday, the Cougars took on the Hugh Boyd Trojans of Richmond and lost 49-14.
The Trojans led 28-6 at the half and added to the count when they ran back the second-half kickoff into the end zone.
Hugh Boyd advanced to the Subway Bowl double-A quarterfinals Saturday in Abbotsford against the Abbotsford Panthers, the Eastern Conference champion. Argyle will take on the G.W. Graham Grizzlies in their quarterfinal playoff Saturday in Chilliwack.
Meanwhile, in junior varsity playoff action Wednesday in Vernon, the Kelly Road Roadrunners of Prince George (3-1) will face the Vernon Panthers (6-0). The Roadrunners claimed the North Division title last weekend with a 36-6 win over the previously unbeaten D.P. Todd Trojans.
