Cole Beamin, a six-foot-three, 189-pound defenceman from Saskatoon, is now part of the Prince George Cougars organization.

The Cougars chose Beamin in the second round (32nd overall) in today's Western Hockey League bantam draft in Calgary. Beamin skated for the Saskatoon Outlaws this season and, in 30 games, registered 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists). Six of his goals came on the power play. Beamin also picked up 64 minutes in penalties.

"Cole Beamin was a player that we had ranked far higher than where he ended up," said Bob Simmonds, the Cougars' director of scouting. "He uses his size effectively, he’s got a tremendous shot from the point and he’s certainly a player that we feel will be a top-tiered defenceman for us for many years to come. We couldn’t be happier to draft a player of Cole’s calibre and character."
