Connolly re-signs with Lightning

Former Prince George Cougars forward Brett Connolly has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Connolly, 22, was the sixth overall selection by the Lightning in the 2010 NHL draft.

Former Prince George Cougars forward Brett Connolly has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Connolly, 22, was the sixth overall selection by the Lightning in the 2010 NHL draft. He had career highs in 2011-12 with four goals, 11 assists and 15 points in 68 games.

He has played primarily with the Lightning's AHL affiliate in Syracuse, where over the past two seasons he has 52 goals and 120 points in 137 games. He ranked third in the AHL with 31 goals in 2012-13.

In 84 NHL games, Connolly has six goals, 17 points, 34 penalty minutes and a minus-17 rating,

Connolly, who calls Prince George home, spent four seasons with the Cougars. His best season was in 2010-11, when he scored 46 goals and 27 assists for 73 points.
