Cats add power forward

A month after helping the Yorkton Terriers win the RBC Royal Bank Cup as national junior A hockey champions, forward Jordan Ross has a new target in sight.

He's now thinking about what it will take for the Prince George Cougars to win a major-junior national championship in next year's MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Cougars announced Friday they've signed the 18-year-old Ross to a standard WHL contract, after he played two seasons in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Terriers.

In 43 regular season games in 2013-14, Ross picked up eight goals and seven assists and had 48 penalty minutes. The six-foot-two, 191-pound native of Kronau, Sask., found his scoring touch in the SJHL playoffs, connecting for five goals and three assists in 14 games.

He was held off the scoresheet in four games at the RBC Cup tournament in Vernon, where the Terriers defeated the Carleton Place Canadians 4-3 in the championship game, May 18.

Ross was a ninth-round selection (181st overall) of the Seattle Thunderbirds in the 2011 bantam draft.

"He's the type of player who can contribute in a lot of different ways both five-on-five and in special teams situations," said Todd Harkins, Cougars interim general manager and director of player personnel. "We are very happy to add another proven winner to our team.

"Not only is Jordan a big and powerful forward, but he skates very well. He's matured a ton over the last few months and was an instrumental part of the Yorkton Terriers' run towards a national championship."

The Cougars are now selling season's tickets, which range in price from $475 (adult) to $315 (students/seniors) to $195 (kids 12 and under). Half-season packages are available for $270, $171 and $98.57. The team will also sell single-game tickets for $28 (adult), $11 (seniors/students) and $5.71 (kids 12 and under).

Prices do not include taxes. Tickets are available at the CN Centre box office or Studio 2880, online at ticketmaster.ca, or through charge by phone at 250-564-5585.
