Would love to be able to recycle

I am shocked and dismayed by the decision of City Council to: 1. Not provide individual recycling bins to condominiums, apartments and multi-family dwellings. All we hear about these days is: Recycle and save the environment.

I am shocked and dismayed by the decision of City Council to:

1. Not provide individual recycling bins to condominiums, apartments and multi-family dwellings.

All we hear about these days is: Recycle and save the environment. But when doorstep recycling pickup is introduced, the high density areas of this city are excluded, by a majority vote of council no less! These developments produce huge quantities of recyclable items, with folks who are currently recycling and wishing to continue to do so.

2. Remove the recycling depots from around the city.

For those of us who are serious recyclers, there is not anywhere for us to even take our recycling and don't say Vanway transfer station. That couldn't be much more inconvenient for city residents. What about the added difficulty for our growing population of seniors? How can they manage to continue to recycle?

The only option we will have is to put everything in the dumpsters provided by the development which will be filled to overflowing! What then about the garbage dumps? Are you ready to create more and more of them for city recyclable waste?

I know it wouldn't be difficult for city employees to pull out the information of number of apartments, number of condominiums and number of multi-family developments within this city as well as number of units in each. Has anyone even bothered to look into that? Residents of this fair city may be shocked to hear how many folks right to recycle is being purposely excluded.

Get with the program, City Council! Other cities, like Penticton, manage to pick up recycling from high density areas of their cities.
