Balancing Our Minds is a youth summit that is focused on teaching teens about mental health.
Understanding mental health is of paramount importance in the current day and age for teens, because they are a group that is at highest risk for taking their own lives. Engaging with youth and their mental health enables them to gain the knowledge and tools to tackle problems that may arise in life, as opposed to becoming marginalized and oppressed. The summit utilizes several techniques, which includes: interactive activities, exchanging personal stories, guest speakers with special guest Trent Seymour, combatting stigma and entertainment.
This means that these tools will ensure that the youth will get the best possible experience, whilst promoting good mental health and identifying what tools should be used if the youth feels that their mental health is threatened.
Thus, this experience is a must do for all youth and, best of all, it is free.
The Northern Balancing Our Minds Youth Summit will take place on May 24 at the Prince George Civic Centre between
9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
All students of high school age are welcome. The summit can be signed up for at Eventbrite or on the PG Youth Action Team's Facebook page. More information can be found on the Facebook page, as well as events that may be arranged at a later date. It is advocated that all parents should promote their high school teen's attendance, because their mental health is of paramount importance.
The Northern Balancing Our Minds Youth Summit tackles one of the most pressing issues for youths which is their mental health. It is envisioned that through peer relationships that teens will be willing to seek help for mental health concerns, as opposed to sinking into deep depression and potentially committing or considering suicide.
Therefore, this summit is important for all of our high school-aged teens and I look forward to seeing them there.
