Song of the Day

A couple of days ago, I outed myself in the newsroom as not being fully up to speed on everything Monty Python.

Sacrilegious, I know.

While I know the melody and the lyric "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay/I sleep all night and I work all day," I had no idea where the song goes beyond that sentence.

So imagine my confusion when my co-workers began referencing wearing high heels and women's clothing.

Since I'm still not fully versed on the tune, I've decided to keep with the cross-dressing theme that this has precipitated and dedicate today's space to a song I am very familiar with: King for a Day, by Green Day.

The track is off the band's 1997 album Nimrod. While it was never released as a single, King for a Day with its ska-influenced horns and chant-y chorus is a Green Day concert staple.

Since it's a song best served live, see Green Day perform King for Day with their cover of Shout (which, coincidentally, has a Monty Python reference) in England recorded for 2005's Bullet in a Bible live album on YouTube: http://youtu.be/Sw50Ki6slN4.
