November rain good for clearing the driveway

There is nothing more beautiful than a summer rain.

There is an infinite number of things more beautiful than a frigid November rain.

When it started to rain last week, I was depressed and annoyed and worried about slippery roads.

However, as the temperature started to warm up, the most amazing thing happened - the snow on my driveway started to melt.

This is significant because due to an increasingly bananas lifestyle, the whole "driveway maintenance" thing has fallen down the list of priorities.

Way down.

Off the page.

So a brilliant winter rain is giving us a fresh start on the driveway and, like Scarlett O'Hara said, "Tomorrow is another day." And so tomorrow, when it snows, maybe I will shovel.

But then again, maybe not because Christmas is coming and I am freaking out.

There is an enthusiastic Christmas sign at my work that someone (not me) is very diligently is keeping track of how many days there are until Christmas.

My answer to that is: "Not enough!" I ask instead, how many cheques do I have until Christmas?

More pressing, however, is the last three papers and one presentation that I have remaining in my first semester in graduate school that I still have to complete in less than a week.

Oh, and I have kids and should feed them.

And drive them to dance classes.

And go to their Christmas/Holiday concerts.

And go and get photos with Santa.

And have a rum and egg nog (maybe not in front of Santa).

And, I should probably bake Christmas treats.

Pinterest has set the bar way to high for Christmas baking and I am starting a quiet revolution about Christmas cookies. Somehow it is not enough that I have actually used the oven and baked treats that I will panic eat while finishing homework in the middle of the night?

The cookies have to be decorated too?

With a $40 specialty cookie decorating pen that you have to get at a craft store (not at a grocery store where they actually sell food)?

I say no.

If I bake, that will be the Christmas miracle.

If the cookies are decorated, it will be because I had the kids lick them and put sprinkles on them. I am still hoping for Joan's Christmas delivery of wonderful things. She really is a wonderful lady.

Merry Christmas!

There is not enough time but somehow, it will all get done.

It always does.
