Worst roads in B.C. ranked

The Okanagan dominated this year's list of driver-voted worst roads in the province, leaving Prince George out of the Top 10 for the second year in a row.

The Okanagan dominated this year's list of driver-voted worst roads in the province, leaving Prince George out of the Top 10 for the second year in a row.

BCAA's worst roads list for 2014 was topped by Silver Star Road in Vernon, followed closely by last year's winner Westside Road in West Kelowna. Both were cited as having pothole and crumbling pavement problems.

Prince George's stretch of Highway 16 near the Southridge Avenue off-ramp was the highest rated local road at number 13. There wasn't another P.G. representative on the list until Highway 16 near Park Drive and Henry Road comes in at number 25.

A record number of votes came in this year, with more than 1,200 separate stretches of road identified across the province as unsafe or difficult to navigate.

"Votes tripled this year," said Ken Cousin, BCAA's associate vice president of Road Assist, in a press release. "This says to me that British Columbians want a way to express their road frustrations and appreciate the opportunity to have their say."

The top 10 BCAA Worst Roads are:

1) Silver Star Road - Vernon

2) Westside Road - West Kelowna (about 40 km north of West Kelowna, near Attenborough Road)
