City councillors will break bread with UNBC's political science students, and the public is invited to the table.
The fourth annual Politicians Dinner hosted by the university's Political Science Students Association (PSSA) happens April 10 at the White Goose Bistro downtown. Most elected municipal officials will be in attendance.
"Shari Green has confirmed, so she will be the first mayor to attend the event," said Arctica Cunningham, a first-year poli sci student and the incoming co-president of the PSSA (she shares the chair with Seth Jex).
"It's a chance for UNBC students and the public in general to meet their representatives, put a face to the name, and ask some of the questions that matter right now."
There will be an informal meet-and-greet starting at 6 p.m., then the politicians will be evenly distributed among the dinner tables where a random smattering of attendees will join them for the meal conversations. Following that, more freestyle networking will take place.
Provincial MLAs and federal MPs from the area were also invited but could not attend this year (they have in the past).
About half of the 40 available meal tickets have been sold. The cost is $20, which is well below actual cost. The PSSA raises funds throughout the year to subsidize the event, allowing students and cost-affected public to afford the opportunity.
Tickets are on sale at the PSSA table in the UNBC Wintergarden until Friday. An email waitlist will be provided if the event is not sold out by then. Those who cannot come to the campus can email their desire to attend to: unbcpssa@gmail.com.
