The University of Northern British Columbia's main convocation will be held Friday. The ceremonies begin at 9 a.m.

The University of Northern British Columbia's main convocation will be held Friday.

The ceremonies begin at 9 a.m. with a procession graduates of UNBC's college of arts, social and health sciences programs from the Bentley Centre to the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

From there, they will begin receiving their degrees at 9:30 a.m. and at 11:45 a.m., a class photo of those students will be taken at the ceremonial stairs.

The class photo for college of science and management students will take place at 1:15 p.m. at the ceremonial stairs, followed by their procession from the Bentley Centre to the Northern Sport Centre at 1:30 p.m. That convocation ceremony will run from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Honorary degrees will be handed out on the day to renowned ethnobiologist Nancy J. Turner and award-winning architect Michael Green.

Ian Picketts will be awarded the Governor General Gold Medal and Johnathan Brian Gorman will receive the Governor General Silver Medal. The valedictorian for college of arts, social and health sciences students is Joanna Paterson, while the valedictorian for the college of science and management students is Cameron Bell.

UNBC will also hold convocation ceremonies at three of its regional campuses - Terrace, Gitwinksihlkw, and Quesnel - next week and by the end of it all, more than 800 credentials will have been granted.
