Ride for Dad today

The Northern BC TELUS Motorcycle Ride For Dad will hit the road today at 11 a.m. to help raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

The Northern BC TELUS Motorcycle Ride For Dad will hit the road today at 11 a.m. to help raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer.

The number of participants has varied a bit over the years but last year there were 168 registered riders that raised more than $26,000, which stays in northern B.C. and is specifically for prostate cancer research.

Registration goes from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and the ride starts at 11 and returns at noon for lunch at Kinsmen Community Hall, 777 Kinsmen Place.

Celebrity ride captain is Dr. Stacy Miller, regional professional practice leader, radiation oncologist for the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North.

"The main focus for this ride is to raise funds for prostate cancer research and to open up those lines of communication for both men and women to make sure men get tested," said organizer Charles Brunette.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event, including those who are interested in looking at all the bikes that will be part of the procession.
