A Prince George couple got a substantial retirement bonus thanks to a $1 million lottery win.

Emily and Wilfrid Tremblay were the big winners in the $1 million guaranteed prize draw during the March 8 Lotto 6/49 game. They realized they won the seven-figure prize when they read out the numbers with their daughter in Vancouver.

"It's our regular routine for my daughter to read out the numbers while I check the tickets," Emily said in a news release. "I thought she was reading back the numbers off my ticket. I had all the matching numbers on my ticket."

To be sure they had the right numbers, the Tremblays went to a retail outlet to check the winning digits again and when they confirmed their big win they simply folded up the ticket, walked out of the store and alerted other family and friends to their good fortune.

The BC Lottery Corporation revealed the winning couple's identity on Tuesday, about six weeks after they purchased the winning ticket at the Real Canadian Superstore outlet.

The couple plan to use the money to purchase a home in Vancouver to be closer to family.

"This really is a dream come true," Wilfrid said.
