One public inquest will be held at the Prince George Courthouse next year to probe the deaths of four workers who died in mill explosions in 2012.

Chief coroner Lisa Lapointe will preside over the inquest beginning March 2, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. into the deaths of Robert Luggi Jr., 45, Carl Charlie, 42, Alan Little, 43, and Glenn Roche, 46, as a result of the explosions at Babine Forest Products mill in Burns Lake and Lakeland Mills.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Justice, the decision to hold a single inquest covering both sets of deaths was made "following a careful review of the information surrounding the tragic events."

Lapointe will hear evidence relating to the specific circumstance of each death as well as a "thorough examination of issues common to both explosions."

"The BC Coroners Service believes that a single proceeding will allow for the most effective examination of key questions and provide the best opportunity for a jury to consider meaningful recommendations to prevent future deaths in similar circumstances," said the press release.

Arrangements are being made to broadcast the proceedings in real time for Burns Lake residents.
