A Prince George man was sentenced to three years probation with a suspended sentence for cutting a former friend with a knife during an altercation in a local low-rent hotel.

Ryan Thomas McConnell, 38, was issued the term Thursday at the Prince George courthouse for the Jan. 17, 2013 incident.

In May, B.C. Supreme Court Justice Selwyn Romilly found McConnell guilty of assault causing bodily harm rather than the higher conviction of aggravated assault.

Sentencing was put over to a later date to allow a pre-sentence report with a psychiatric risk assessment to be completed.

McConnell was also issued a 10-year firearms prohibition.
