Prince George School District superintendent Brian Pepper said its too early in the district's budget process to determine what shortfall, if any, the district will face for the 2015-16 school year.

The district uses an "expanded committee of the whole" process for budgeting, he said, which involves input from a wide range of stakeholders in the district. The budget process that began in February is not likely to be complete until mid-June, Pepper said.

"We have reviewed revenues and expenses and have looked at the [Ministry of Education's] funding announcement," Pepper said. "We're anticipating we'll have some monetary challenges, but we're not at a place where we have a number. We're just not there yet."

Pepper said the district budget is prepared after lengthy consultations with schools, district departments, and consultation to identify areas of need within the district.

"We're in the process of rolling that up," he said. "We're projecting a small decrease in enrolment, so therefore we'll likely have a drop in revenue. [But] it's very complex to build a budget."
