Jail'n'bail set to raise cash for cancer society

The bars will once again be up in the parking lot of Gold's Gym on Wednesday for the second annual jail'n'bail fundraiser, put on by the cyclists participating in this year's Cops for Cancer Tour de North.

High-profile Prince George residents will be "arrested," placed in a makeshift jail and given a phone to raise enough "bail" to be released - with the proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. More than $7,000 was raised last year.

"This event is an excellent community event from a fun-factor and awareness perspective," said event organizer Cst. Sofia Delisimunovic. "Not only that, the most important part is that the proceeds go to pediatric cancer research, support programs and Camp Goodtimes."

Nomination forms are available at the Prince George RCMP detachment, 455 Victoria St., the North District RCMP detachment, 4020-Fifth Ave. or by e-mailing tourdenorth@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gold's Gym is located at the corner of Victoria St. and Eighth Ave.

The Cops for Cancer Tour de North starts Sept. 12 in Prince George and arrives in Prince Rupert on Sept. 18. Six local people are among the participating cyclists: Sgt. Holly Lavin, Cst. Chris Emon, Cst. Paul Starr, Delisimunovic, Dakota Stone (B.C. Ambulance) and Dennis Schwab (community rider).
