The College of New Caledonia's board of governors will consider a two-per-cent increase to tuition at its next board meeting.

The board, which received a motion from the college for the increase on Friday, will make a decision on Nov. 28.

If successful, the move is predicted to generate about $100,000 dependent on enrolment and final approval by the government.

"It will help, but not significantly. We still have a lot of work to do to submit a balanced budget," CNC president Henry Reiser said, "We've had to cut $9.6 million from our budget since 2008 and it has been a significant challenge every year."

The board also reviewed and approved proposed assumptions for the development of the 2015-16 operating budget during Friday's meeting.

Colleges are required by provincial legislation to plan for a balanced budget every year, which means changes to the budget are necessary in order to deal with the projected shortfall.
