A call to a missing persons hotline has renewed hope that a young Prince George man who went missing seven years ago is safe and sound.

A man identifying himself as Lucas Degerness recently called the Canadian Centre for Child Protection's MissingKids.ca program, based in Winnipeg, the organization said this week.

Degerness was 14 years old when he was last seen in this city in June 2007.

After a meeting at his school with his mother and the vice principal, Degerness, now 21 years old, spent the night at a friend's home and was never seen again.

MissingKids.ca has issued a call this week for the public's help in finding Degerness. It was accompanied by a plea from his mother, Gina, for him to get in contact with her.

"If I could talk to Luke right now, I would say that I have missed you every single day," she said. "Please know that all we want is to hear from you and to know that you are okay," said Gina. "We've missed so much of your life already, and we don't want to lose any more time. We want you to come home."

At the time of his disappearance, he was described as 5'8" tall with a medium build, brown eyes and brown hair and was thought to be carrying a large camouflage backpack.

Anyone with information regarding Lucas Degerness is urged to contact MissingKids.ca at 1-866-KID-TIPS (543-8477) or the police. Tips can also be submitted online at missingkids.ca. All information can be shared confidentially.
