Guerilla knitters and crocheters are calling all like-minded crafters to join the Two Rivers Gallery Yarn Bomb Squad to help commemorate the city's 100th anniversary by adorning 100 trees with woolen creations.

Ultimately, anyone who commits to sprucing up a tree will upload a photo and story about their art project which will be put on Google maps to offer people a walking/bike tour like no other.

This is an ideal opportunity for local groups, organizations and businesses to support the community project. Sponsorship comes in many different forms, including donating the yarn, knitting or crocheting the panels, or pledging to decorate a tree.

Yarn bombing is street art what adorns everyday objects with colourful knit or crochet panels.

This project is ideal for classrooms, businesses, families and friends, with each person making one piece to be added to another to make a bigger project to engulf a tree trunk completely in a colourful wrap.

Once a participant has made the commitment, pick up a supply of yarn, if need be, at the Two Rivers Gallery. Yarn bombings need to be installed by July 9 in time for BMO KidzArt Dayz and the launch of the summer centennial celebrations. The art project needs to be taken down no later than July 30 by those who installed it.

Members of the Yarn Bomb Squad are offering lessons to classrooms and groups to learn to finger knit - no needles required - or drop in on the MakerLab any Thursday night between 5 and 9 p.m.
