The search for a missing local woman has been put on hold.
Prince George Search and Rescue (PGSAR) and the RCMP have jointly agreed to suspend the ground search operations for Anita Florence Thorne, according to a PGSAR statement.
Thorne, 49, has not been seen since Wednesday morning. RCMP found Thorne's vehicle parked at a Willow River rest stop on Thursday morning and PGSAR was called in to help after the use of a police dog and RCMP airplane failed to locate Thorne.
More than 100 people – made up of volunteers from Quesnel, Mackenzie, Vanderhoof and Prince George and Thorne's family and friends – joined the search Saturday, with 94 returning on Sunday to keep looking.
They were assisted by a private helicopter and a small plane from the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and an RCMP K9 unit.
"The RCMP's investigation will continue and should there be a reason for PGSAR's continued involvement we will not hesitate to assist," said a Sunday statement from PGSAR. "At this point what the RCMP need are clues."
Thorne is described as Caucasian 157 cm (5'2") tall, weighing 66 kg (145 lbs), with brown eyes and brown shoulder length hair. Anyone with information on where Thorne may be is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.
