Wheelin' Warriors of the North is winding up their fundraising efforts in advance of their summer Ride to Conquer Cancer.

The cycling team is holding a bake sale in the lobby of the University Hospital of Northern B.C. on Feb. 12.

Like last year, the team has recruited 50 members to ride from Vancouver to Seattle this August 27 and 28. They range in age from 16 to 62.

"We will have a range of home baked goods, including Valentines Day themed treats perfect for friends, colleagues, and loved ones," said captain Karin Piche, in an email.

This is the team's fourth year, and so far it has raised $288,000.

Last year its total was more than $112,000. In order to participate, each rider has to commit to raising a minimum of $2500.

All money raised from the ride goes to the BC Cancer Foundation that funds research with a direct impact on improvements in cancer care for patients and their families in BC.

"This includes northern and rural research, some of which occurs at the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North," Piche said.

The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
