Despite the unseasonably warm weather lately, winter will officially arrive at 3:03 p.m. on Sunday.

To honour the day, the Winter Solstice Celebration takes place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Exploration Place atrium with a sale of gifts from our hands and our lands, said Jovanka Djordjevich, organizer of the event.

"Visitors to the sale will find lots of great gift ideas as well as seasonal vegetables and some tasty samples," said Djordjevich. "They will also find baked goods and sweets, handmade bags, scarves and winter fashions, jewelry, art cards, bowls, ornaments, soaps, baskets and more, ready for the giving."

The Lantern Walk starts at 3:30 from the Exploration place parking lot and continues through Fort George Park. Participants must bring their own lantern and get ready to sing - song sheets will be provided.
