Rising water levels in rivers and streams around the region are a cause for concern, according to the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.
Fraser River high water
Rainy weather means high-water conditions remain on the Fraser River and its feeding tributaries. Flooding on Willox Creek north of McBride resulted in the closure of Mountain View Road, which was reopened to traffic on Sunday.

Rising water levels in rivers and streams around the region are a cause for concern, according to the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George.

Rivers and streams with rising water can cause strong undercurrents, unstable banks, and more debris in the water, creating a higher risk for people trying to enjoy the water.

Residents who live near a river or stream should be prepared for possible flooding.

Prepare personal emergency supply kits for home, car and work (plan for at least a three-day supply of food and water.)

Have a grab-and-go kit

Keep important papers in watertight containers and have a record of valuables in a safe place

If flooding is likely in the area, pay attention to the local media for information

Watch for warning signs: increase in height and intensity of water flows, mudslides, debris in creeks, colour changes in water or leaning trees

Know that banks of rivers and streams may be unstable and dangerous

Teach children about flood safety

Consider arrangements for pets and livestock.
