North District RCMP have arrested an Alberta man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant.

David Allan Lenkewich, 29, was apprehended Monday when police and the Ministry of Transportation's commercial vehicle safety enforcement branch were conducting a road safety check on Highway 16 East.

Police were able to confirm a Canada-wide warrant had been issued for Lenkewich in relation to the dangerous operation of motor vehicle and numerous other charges stemming from an incident in Strathcona, Alberta.

They were also able to confirm both the red Ford F350 and the cargo trailer it was pulling were reported stolen out of Alberta.

A woman, Nashae Nickole Sowan, 29, was also arrested at the scene.

Both have been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and one count each of wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance.

North District RCMP said Lenkewich is well known to police and will be transported back to Alberta where he will face these charges and more relating to the outstanding warrants.
