A former Prince George mother of the year and a local businessman were the two people who died Thursday morning when struck by a commercial tractor-trailer near College of New Caledonia.

Patricia Sims-McLelan, 50, and David Sakawsky, 49, were crossing Nicholson Street just before 7 a.m. when they were hit by the vehicle making a left-hand turn from 22nd Avenue, the B.C. Coroners Service said Tuesday.

Both died at the scene.

Sims-McLelan was named the Fraternal Order and Ladies Auxiliary of the Eagles Mother of the Year in 2007 and was known for her involvement in 4-H and other volunteer work.

Sakawsky owned Wti Indoor Gardens on Fourth Avenue.

They were the second and third persons to die while crossing Prince George streets in less than a week.

Scotty Bryan, 36, of Vanderhoof was killed the night of Oct. 5 when struck by a pickup truck while crossing First Avenue.

The Coroners Service and the RCMP continued to investigate both incidents.
