The provincial government has committed $1 million towards improving the access to the Ancient Forest-Chun T'oh Wudujut Provincial Park off Highway 16.

Located 120 kilometres east of Prince George, the park showcases an inland temperate rainforest made up of hemlock and western cedar trees as old as 1,000 years and with trunks up to 16 metres around. It drew 20,000 visitors last year.

The project will consist of a widened intersection.

"These improvements to the intersection and parking facilities at the Ancient Forest will enhance visitors' experience at this very special park," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. "Ministry staff have taken great care to respect the environment during the work, making every effort to consider the unique environmental diversity of the area."

The Ancient Forest was designated a provincial park in March, covering 11,190-hectares, and work continues on making it a UNESCO World Heritage site.
