UNBC will be chock full of new administrative talent this school year after announcing William Krane as the upcoming provost and vice president academic.

Krane is the latest addition, following the arrival of UNBC president Daniel Weeks in September.

The former associate provost at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby will move to the Prince George campus in May.

"Dr. Krane brings a unique skill set to UNBC and more than 45 years' experience in the university environment, not to mention his reputation as an outstanding teacher, researcher, administrator and institution-builder," said Weeks in Thursday's press release.

"His experience and expertise will allow him to make an immediate impact at UNBC."

Krane replaces Mark Dale, who will become the university's first dean of regional programs in January - a new position created to lead programs at the Quesnel, Fort St. John, and Terrace campuses.

The university started its search for Dale's replacement in September and appointed long-time professor John Young to take on the interim role until Krane arrives.

The release said Krane has "an extensive background in post-secondary teaching, research, and administration," referring to his 10-year tenure at SFU, positions on education committees and editorial consultant work with publications.

Krane will be expected to take the lead on all things academic as well as strategic planning, development at the university.

"UNBC must not only enhance its position as a major regional force for higher learning; we must assert ourselves on the provincial, national, and international stages, and I welcome the opportunity to help realize such a vision," said Krane, who has won a Canada Council Doctoral Fellowship among other awards and has received more than a dozen research grants.
