Two men were arrested Thursday night for allegedly taking turns pointing what appeared to be a shotgun - but turned out to be a field hockey stick covered in black tape - at pedestrians and drivers.

Police said the two had their faces covered with bandanas when they were apprehended after RCMP were called to the 1900 block of Victoria Street just after 9 p.m.

The 32-year-old Prince George resident originally from the Burns Lake area and the 30-year-Prince George resident originally from the Hazelton area, were held in custody overnight and were to appear in court on Friday.

Police are seeking charges of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and pointing a firearm against the pair. Their names were not released because charges had not yet been approved.

"A stick that appears to be a firearm is a firearm," RCMP said in a press release.
