Longtime TSN host Michael Landsberg will be the guest speaker at Feburary's UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast.

One of Canada's most familiar sports television personalities is coming to Prince George to help the cause of UNBC athletics.

Michael Landsberg - best known as the host of Off The Record (OTR) and as a feature host during Olympic Games coverage on TSN and CTV - will headline the fourth annual UNBC Timberwolves Legacy Breakfast. The event happens Feb. 19 at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

OTR is considered Canada's longest running TV sports talk show and from the start it has been centred on "Landsberg's brash and witty style", according to UNBC's director of athletics and recreation Loralyn Murdoch. "Not one to shy away from anything, Landsberg talks frankly about mental health - and specifically, his own struggle with depression - and urges others to do the same."

Murdoch said the breakfast speech was "sure to create a memorable morning" while generating important funds for the university's athletic programs. The previous three years have raised more than $140,000 for the student athletes representing the region and living in Prince George for their higher education.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Michael Landsberg, as he shares his important message," said Murdoch. "Every year, this event grows before our eyes, and has quickly become a hugely anticipated day in Prince George. One hundred per cent of proceeds goes towards scholarships and bursaries for Timberwolves athletes."

For the fourth consecutive year, Canadian Tire will be the presenting sponsor. The previous events have starred Canadian sports icons Hayley Wickenheiser, Michael 'Pinball' Clemons, and Theo Fleury, each one with their own personal message supporting the overall message of how athletics benefits overall society.

"We believe this year, with Michael Landsberg, will be the best one yet," Murdoch said.

Tickets are $90 for an individual seat, or $900 for a table of eight (includes sponsorship recognition).

The doors open at 6:45 a.m. and the breakfast begins at 7 a.m.
