Public transit users will have an extra incentive to head to the polls on Oct. 19.

On Monday night, city council voted unanimously to waive transit fare on election day, as they did for the municipal election.

"Allowing residents to ride transit free for the day of the federal election may encourage voter turnout as well as introduce non transit riders to our system and may improve overall transit ridership," said a report from engineering and public works department.

The city is projecting a loss of $1,800 in fare revenue by offering free rides that day.
