A Quesnel man police say is a prolific offender faces charges following a break and enter at a Valleyview Drive home and an attempt to escape RCMP in a pickup truck.
Clayton Michael Hohmann, 30, claimed to be a peace officer when caught by a representative of the property on Wednesday then took off in the truck, Prince George RCMP said.
Called to the scene at about 12:15 p.m., RCMP spotted the truck while en route. When police activated emergency lights, the driver sped off.
Police did not pursue but the driver lost control a short time later, striking a postal box and driving into a ditch near the corner of Sloan and Shamrock roads.
The suspect fled on foot and attempted to break into another home but, with the help of a service dog, he found hiding in a nearby yard, arrested and taken to hospital to get treatment for minor bite wounds, RCMP said.
A loaded SKS semi-automatic rifle was later located in the truck. It was stolen from a Prince George Hart Highway home on Dec. 18.
