A hazardous materials team suits up in October to deal with a suspicious material at a Canada Post depot in Prince George. It turned out to be a sugar substitute, RCMP said this week.

The suspicious substance that forced an evacuation of the Canada Post sorting facility a few months ago has been identified as a sugar substitute, RCMP said this week.

The depot at 15th and Nicholson was closed for about a half day on Oct. 24 after a white powder was found leaking out of a package.

A hazardous materials team from Prince George Fire Rescue was called in to collect the substance and it was handed off to the RCMP for analysis.

With the finding the investigation has been concluded, RCMP said.

"The Prince George RCMP would like to remind persons that use mail or courier services to consult with the service provider to ensure your items are approved for transportation and packaged appropriately," RCMP said.
